Theories and Concepts in HR Management

“All school administrators are, in a sense, human resources leaders because they work with and make decisions about people.”  -Human Resource Management for Effective Schools

Essentially, all educational leaders manage their staffs through hiring, managing, and (when necessary) disciplining staff.  The goal of all schools is the well being and educational achievement of students.  Because teachers are primarily responsible for effecting student success, the educational leader must carefully manage human resources in order to achieve the desired ends.  Leaders must establish a strong school mission and culture through performance evaluation and professional development, must continuously strive to better teacher performance through compensation and rewards, introduce and train new staff members when necessary through induction, and at times address conflict through interventions such as mediation (Seyfarth, 2008).
